Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has insisted that one match this season for the Red Devils was “very hard” after they came up against a “very strong” team.
Sofyan Amrabat is on loan from Fiorentina and the 27-year-old Morocco midfielder’s current deal with the Red Devils will expire at the end of the Premier League season.
The Morocco international, who arrived on deadline day in 2023, has made sporadic appearances for Manchester United and had to battle for regular first-team minutes.
There were high expectations placed on Amrabat’s shoulders after he arrived at Old Trafford, following an impressive 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar with Morocco.
However, Amrabat has failed to have a big impact at United this season and the Morocco international is likely to be sent back to Serie A side Fiorentina this summer.
Amrabat on ‘very hard’ Man Utd match
Sofyan Amrabat has managed only 22 appearances across all competitions for Manchester United this season, having failed to score or pick up a single assist.
The Fiorentina loanee started alongside United teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo for the Red Devils’ 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Anfield last December.
United defied expectations after they managed to hold off Liverpool to pick up a single Premier League point, despite Diogo Dalot being sent off in injury time.
Speaking to the United Review (via Manchester United’s official website), Amrabat admitted that the showdown with Liverpool was a “very hard” match.
“It was a very nice experience,” he said.
“I think it’s clear that Liverpool, they are very strong. Also, this season, they have played very good football. I think our game there was very hard.
“It’s not easy to get the result at Anfield. But we played and it was zero-zero.
“I think it’s a very good and important point.”
Amrabat on Man Utd’s FA Cup clash vs Liverpool
United will face Premier League rivals Liverpool on Sunday in their FA Cup quarter-final showdown at Old Trafford, with kick-off slated for 3:30pm UK time.
The Red Devils are on the verge of reaching Wembley again and United boss Erik ten Hag is keen for his side to punch their ticket to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Speaking on the forthcoming tie against Liverpool, Amrabat admitted that United have a “lot of respect” for the Reds.
“But now we play at home against them,” he continued.
“We have a lot of respect for them. Of course, we want to win the game. So, to me, I think it is a very nice game.
“We are at home with a full stadium so this is a big boost for us.”
