Manuel Ugarte currently faces an uncertain future at Manchester United amid interest from around Europe.
When Manchester United announced Casemiro’s exit in January ahead of his contract expiry, the club knew it would be tasked with replacing one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation.
Unfortunately, since his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024, Manuel Ugarte has been unable to compete for a regular role in the team due to his underwhelming performances.
Ugarte has yet to start a game under Michael Carrick, but in addition to that, there’s speculation over apparent Juventus interest.

Man Utd fans ready for Manuel Ugarte sale
United fans on TalkingPoints have been giving their thoughts on Ugarte ahead of an uncertain summer for the midfielder.
Ugarte could still play an important role for United, if called upon, in the remaining seven Premier League matches.
Reports suggest Ugarte wants his future solved before the 2026 World Cup, but it’s telling that most United fans wouldn’t lose any sleep if he were to leave at the end of the season.
When asked if they want Ugarte to be part of the squad for the 2026/27 season, 82% voted to move him on, and 17% stated that he should be kept based on being a ‘useful squad player’.
One fan expressed the view that Ugarte has failed to meet expectations at Old Trafford, saying: “Has never reached the level expected of him in a poor United side. So if we are looking to improve then Ugarte should be sold whilst he still retains a resale value.”
Another fan in agreement stated: “Completely agree. He’s failing Berrada’s two-year transfer rule and with Mainoo back in the fold, I can’t see Ugarte getting any minutes this season. Probably take a loss but sell. Need to bring back the culture of accountability.”
Some fans want Ugarte sold, but still feel sympathetic towards how it hasn’t quite gone to plan for him at United.
“It’s hard in the Premier League, he will move on and may be successful. But I don’t think so, some players can’t make it in [the] Prem.”
There was also support for Ugarte among the reactions to the poll, with one fan writing: “Course he is just because he lacks confidence, but I still believe in him.”
Manuel Ugarte’s best performance in a Man Utd shirt
There haven’t been enough standout performances from Ugarte since he joined United, which explains why conversations are being had over whether the club should take a loss by cashing in.
Ugarte’s best moments include an equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Everton and his goal in a second-leg victory over Lyon in the Europa League.
However, Ugarte’s best performance in a United shirt came in a Boxing Day draw against Newcastle.
It was one of Ruben Amorim’s final games as head coach and he recorded a season-high for successful tackles against Eddie Howe’s side.
