Manchester United fans dropped their verdict on Marcus Rashford after seeing him in action for the Red Devils in the club’s first pre-season match of the summer.
Erik ten Hag’s men travelled to the Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim, Norway, for their friendly clash against Norwegian side Rosenborg on Monday.
The 54-year-old Manchester United manager made the trip to Norway without several key players, including the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez.
Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo have been away on international duty with England and featured in the 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday.
Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho have also been away from Old Trafford and captured major silverware at this summer’s Copa America with Argentina.
Marcus Rashford missed out on the opportunity to represent England at this summer’s Euros after he was left out of the Three Lions squad.
Man Utd star Rashford vs Rosenborg
Marcus Rashford endured a tough run at Old Trafford last season, with the Manchester United star struggling for form and consistency.
The 26-year-old United forward made 43 appearances across all competitions and only scored eight times in the 2023-24 season, with Rashford picking up five assists.
Erik ten Hag staunchly defended Rashford over his form and stuck with the United star, despite also facing pressure over the player’s off-field behaviour.
Rashford started United’s first pre-season match of the summer against Rosenborg and the England international struggled to impress with his performance.
The Three Lions star was in attack alongside Hannibal Mejbri, Ethan Williams and Ethan Wheatley, with Rashford offering very little in the final third in his display.
Rashford only played 45 minutes and was withdrawn for Ethan Ennis as part of the sweeping changes that United boss Ten Hag made for the second half.
Man Utd fans react to Rashford’s performance
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were largely disappointed at what they saw from Rashford’s performance against Rosenborg.
One Red Devils supporter claimed that they are “stressing” out about the new season after seeing Rashford, while another called his performance “dreadful.”
United fans are convinced that the Red Devils “need to cash out” on Rashford while the player still has a significant transfer value in the market.
“[Man United] need to cash out on Rashford before it’s too late,” one fan said.
Someone else commented: “Rashford is in for a long season, I see absolutely no improvement from him.”
Another added: “I know this is pre-season but I can tell that Rashford is definitely going to continue stressing me out in the upcoming season.”
A fourth wrote: “Rashford still looks dreadful man, what happened to him?”
“Our biggest chance is to sell Rashford this summer. No chance of improvement,” somebody else posted.
While a sixth tweeted: “I still can’t believe how poor Rashford is at times. Nico Williams was giving me joy last night. What I hoped Rashford would become from a technical and intelligence POV.”
And a seventh said: “Rashford had two chances to pass there and still blew it.”
Another suggested: “Marcus Rashford can never change. I hope Erik ten Hag does the right thing [dropping him when he’s underperforming] if he isn’t sold this summer.”
