'Moving him' - Gary Neville in full agreement with Roy Keane over how Erik ten Hag must utilise Man Utd star after international break

Gary Neville and Roy Keane felt the same way about the approach that Erik ten Hag should take with one Manchester United star after the international break.

Manchester United have won only one of their opening three Premier League matches under Erik ten Hag in the current campaign.

The Red Devils secured all three points from their Premier League opener against Fulham at Old Trafford after Joshua Zirkzee’s second-half winner in August.

Following on from the 1-0 win over Fulham, United saw their momentum derailed after a 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton at the Amex last month.

Ten Hag’s woes continued ahead of the September international break after Liverpool inflicted a devastating 3-0 defeat on United at Old Trafford.

Neville and Keane on Man Utd star

Luis Diaz scored a first-half brace for Liverpool last weekend before Mohamed Salah sealed all three points for the Reds in the second half at Old Trafford.

Manchester United offered very little fightback in response to a dominating Liverpool performance, with Erik ten Hag once again facing mounting pressure at the club.

Casemiro was widely criticised for his disastrous performance against Liverpool and the former Real Madrid star was at fault on both occasions in Luis Diaz’s brace.

Ten Hag was forced to withdraw the 32-year-old Brazilian midfielder before the second half and replaced him with youth academy product Toby Collyer.

Casemiro has been the preferred midfield pick alongside Kobbie Mainoo, but Manuel Ugarte is now expected to challenge him for his place after his deadline-day move.

Speaking on The Overlap, Roy Keane felt Casemiro’s time at United is not done and believes that the Red Devils star should be deployed higher up the pitch.

Gary Neville agreed with his ex-United teammate before adding that Manuel Ugarte could play alongside Kobbie Mainoo while Casemiro is played in an advanced role.

“Moving him probably higher and away from that back four and those deeper positions […],” he said on the Stick to Football show.

“I don’t think he’s the best at receiving it on the half-turn.

“Ugarte’s going to come in with Mainoo. But when [Casemiro] does play, maybe Ugarte can sit a little bit deeper and he can move on a little bit.”

Ten Hag on Casemiro at Man Utd

Casemiro has been linked with one club in Turkey amid the uncertainty around the United star’s long-term future at Old Trafford.

Manuel Ugarte was tipped with a United move in the summer window before the Red Devils finally landed the defensive midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking after the Liverpool defeat, Ten Hag insisted that Casemiro would “bounce back” from his poor showing at Old Trafford against the Reds.

“He showed so often that he is a great character,” he told Sky Sports, as per The Evening Standard.

“We all have seen great moments from him, being decisive for us in the midfield. He will show it again, I’m sure he will bounce back.”
