'Furious': Man United duo unhappy with Alejandro Garnacho after what he did vs Chelsea

Alejandro Garnacho had an afternoon to forget as Manchester United drew 1-1 with Chelsea.

It was the same old story for Manchester United on Sunday afternoon with plenty of chances created but a lack of composure in front of goal.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Rasmus Hojlund was brought down by Robert Sanchez in the second half, but Moises Caicedo drew the visitors level just minutes later.

United fans criticised Garnacho’s performance after he was wasteful in front of goal and slowed down several attacks with poor decision-making in the final third.

The 20-year-old, who was United’s Player of the Month for October, missed several chances and drew groans from the Old Trafford crowd after snubbing an easy pass to Amad Diallo late on which would have resulted in a big chance.

Garnacho let himself down against Chelsea when it came to his attacking play, but even worse than that was his defensive work rate.

Casemiro and Noussair Mazraoui ‘furious’ at Alejandro Garnacho

Garnacho was excellent against Leicester and is still United’s top scorer this season – so one bad performance does not stain his good start to the season.

Bad performances can happen, but a lack of effort is unacceptable and United’s young winger was reminded of that by Casemiro on Sunday afternoon.

Alejandro Garnacho unforgivably gave the ball away in a promising area with just five minutes remaining on the clock. He refused to track back and Casemiro ended up covering for him and received a booking for his challenge on Neto.

Immediately after his tackle, Casemiro shot to his feet and started shouting at Garnacho.

As recalled by Sky Sports: “Casemiro has to chase back to deal with a counter after Garnacho loses possession. Neto gets wiped out. And Casemiro is furious with Garnacho.”

Reporter Melissa Reddy was at Old Trafford and added: “Mazraoui shouting at Garnacho twice to get back and help him with no success.

“There are a few players who need to watch how hard their attacking contemporaries work at Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham.”

Alejandro Garnacho faces new Ruben Amorim challenge

The sky is the limit for Garnacho and he knows it.

United’s academy gem has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo this season after his strong start to the campaign, but he cannot afford to grow complacent.

Garnacho may find himself fighting for a spot under new head coach Ruben Amorim, who is expected to implement a 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford.

It is not a formation that suits the natural strengths of Garnacho, so he is under pressure to prove that he can fit into Amorim’s “spectacular” tactics.

He hardly helped his case with his performance against Chelsea on Sunday.
