Ruben Amorim's former players rave about trait that was Sir Alex Ferguson's biggest strength at Man United

Ruben Amorim’s first training session at Manchester United seemed to go down well with the squad.

Exactly one week after Ruben Amorim was welcomed to Carrington, the 39-year-old finally got to hold training after work visa issues were sorted.

Amorim only had 11 senior players in training with most of the squad still away on international duty, but the session still appeared to be well-received by those involved.

Marcus Rashford and Casemiro described training as “top” as two of the more senior players involved in the session.

As expected, Amorim immediately began coaching his 3-4-3 system which is bound to be a big change for a squad so used to playing with a back four.

It will require a lot of communication from United’s new head coach to get his ideas across to his players. Thankfully, it seems he has that in abundance.

Ruben Amorim praised for excellent communication skills

It was clear just how loved Ruben Amorim was at Sporting during his final home game in Portugal against Manchester City. Sporting fans were in tears about Amorim’s exit.

It was not only the fans who shared a special connection with Amorim with his players running to celebrate with him during his final game.

Via The Athletic, a handful of Amorim’s former players explained exactly what it is like working with the charismatic Portuguese.

They claim that “communication” was a theme mentioned by lots of Amorim’s ex-players, including Sporting captain Morten Hjulmand.

Hjulmand told Record: “Mister Amorim makes things very clear to the players, about his vision, about the game, about how he sees your character and how you can improve. He is very good at knowing how he can make his players better. How he needs to treat one player and another player differently.”

Fransergio, who played in Amorim’s Braga team, continued by saying: “He’s very calm, and he’s someone who sees everyone not only as professionals but also as human beings. He would often inquire about our families, he would check on how foreign players were adjusting to life in Portugal.”

Communication was key to Sir Alex Ferguson’s Man United success

Being a tactical genius is only one-half of being a manager – the other is keeping players and staff happy, motivated and improving every day.

Sir Alex Ferguson mastered both arts. The legendary Manchester United manager knew how to get the best out of all of his players and how to motivate them individually.

Back in 2015, just two years after his retirement, Ferguson spoke about the importance of communication – something that Amorim has been praised for.

“On recognition and communication, this is a valuable lesson for anyone. One of the students asked me ‘what would you have liked to have known 30 years ago that you know now?’ and it is definitely communication,” Ferguson said.

“No matter what you think of your chief executive or chairman, you have to find a way of communicating with them. The other aspect of communication is the recognition of staff. Recognising the people who work for you. Always saying good morning, get to know them.

“It builds a fort around you, because when things are going wrong I knew everyone at Carrington was behind me”.
