Rio Ferdinand gives blunt statement on Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho future at Manchester United

Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have question marks over their futures.

Ruben Amorim has pledged that this week offers a fresh start for Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho after they were axed for the Manchester derby.

Yet both players have a point to prove, and Marcus Rashford is up for sale, according to a new report from The Guardian.

The duo have to win over Ruben Amorim and demonstrate they can play a part in his future plans for the club.

Rio Ferdinand warning to United duo

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand discussed Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, on his YouTube channel.

And Ferdinand had a blunt remark that he insists both players must acknowledged, “Football don’t owe anyone nothing.”

Ferdinand says he is speaking from experience: “I actually thought at one point I was owed something. I didn’t get it. And I look back and go, You know what? I weren’t owed anything.

“You don’t give to receive as a footballer. In that sense, you respect is the only thing that you want, that I think that you should, you should demand, but you need to earn that as well.”

Garnacho and Rashford may not fit

Ferdinand added that he believes that despite various off-field concerns, the issues with both players may simply be a tactical fit.

He noted that Amorim prefers to play with more narrow forward players, whereas Rashford and Garnacho are wide players, who lack the defensive discipline to play at wing-back.

Ferdinand said: “I’m not doubting the talent that Marcus and Garnacho have. They have a huge talent. They’re in there in the upper echelons of football, in terms of what talent that they could produce.

“They’ve shown that they can produce moments of brilliance, right? Ok, so no one’s doubting the talent that they have, but it may not be just right for what this manager wants.

“That could be their problem… that’s what happens with any new manager coming in, there’s always gonna be casualties.”

Amorim has toyed with using Rashford up front, but already expressed concern over his ability to play the position.

It is up to the duo to prove they do fit, and if they want to stay, be good teammates and top professionals while they try to win over their head coach.
