Ruben Amorim has been told that one Manchester United-linked striker is prone to giving the “ball to the opponents” amid his current run of form.
That is according to former Real Madrid and Roma player Antonio Cassano, who has pulled no punches towards one “poor” attacker this season.
Ruben Amorim could enter the summer transfer window with a striker on his mind amid the struggles of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in the final third.
Rasmus Hojlund has lacked consistency in the 2024-25 season and the Manchester United striker has scored seven times in 23 appearances across all competitions.
Joshua Zirkzee, on the other hand, has been met with heavy criticism in his debut season at Old Trafford after his move from Bologna last summer.
The 23-year-old Netherlands striker has only netted four times in 28 matches in all competitions and Zirkzee has been linked with Juventus in the January window.
Cassano critical of Man Utd-linked forward
Speaking to Viva el Futbol, Antonio Cassano ruthlessly slammed Juventus’ attackers under manager Thiago Motta in the current Serie A season.
Manchester United have been linked with Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and the Serbian forward could be one target for Ruben Amorim in the summer.
Dusan Vlahovic, who moved to Juventus in 2022 from Fiorentina, has netted 12 times in 23 appearances across all competitions for the Old Lady this season.
The 24-year-old Serbia striker is out of contract with Juventus in 2026 and Cassano ruthlessly slammed Vlahovic by suggesting that he “can’t play in a big team.”
“I’m the first to say that Motta is doing badly, you have to understand what you want,” he said, as per Tutto Juve.
“When the other day he [played] beautiful football and the first half could have ended 4-0, I add that the alibi I give Motta is that the strongest player, [Teun] Koopmeiners, is unrecognisable and is doing very badly.
“He’s not giving him a hand. Vlahovic? He’s poor, unproposable, he can’t play in a big team. Hysterical and gives the ball to the opponents. I would never let him play.”
Amorim on Man Utd in January window
Amorim has been heavily linked with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres and the United manager could raid his former club for the 26-year-old Swedish forward.
However, the former Sporting CP boss has played down the idea of United making any major signings in January and will likely wait until his first summer window.
“When the window is open, we can try to do something and we will try to do something,” Amorim said ahead of the Liverpool match.
“But I think, in the next weeks, we are going to have more time to train and we can improve, that’s the only way.
“We had a lot of games without training, now we will have more space to grow. You can see that the context is worse [at] this moment, as we had a lot of losses, so we have to manage everything.”
Speaking on which positions he would like to reinforce, he added: “I will keep that to myself. But we’ll try to do something.”
