David de Gea has gone on to become a key figure at Fiorentina after spending 12 years at Manchester United.
After going a full season without a club, David de Gea joined Fiorentina last summer only to return to the levels that saw him collect four Player of the Season awards at Manchester United.
The 34-year-old has resurrected his career after leaving Old Trafford when his contract expired. De Gea looked like a shell of his former self, but that hasn’t prevented him from bouncing back.
It is understood that De Gea was inundated with offers after his Old Trafford exit, but he took his time returning before impressing at Fiorentina.
Fiorentina signed De Gea on a one-year deal, but the Italian side has the option to extend his deal by a further year, though it would require them to increase his salary.

David de Gea names best Manchester United teammates
Although De Gea only won the Premier League once during his 12-year stint at United, the Spaniard shared the dressing room with several world-class players.
United have endured a difficult period since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, with De Gea there to experience a lot of that as he played under an array of different managers before leaving the club.
However, it was Erik ten Hag who decided to show De Gea the door. The former United manager signed Andre Onana as his replacement and the jury is still out as to whether the former Ajax and Inter Milan goalkeeper is the right man.
As part of an interview with La Repubblica, De Gea spoke about his time in England.
“Van Persie, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rooney, Ibrahimovic and Lukaku,” De Gea said when asked to name his five best teammates from his time at United.
“But when they didn’t score against me in training, they also got frustrated.”
All five players shared something in common since they got all frustrated by De Gea’s stop-stopping ability. That is one way to keep your attacking players on their toes.
De Gea excludes Bruno Fernandes
All five of the players are worthy of their place, but it comes as a huge surprise to see Bruno Fernandes overlooked by De Gea.
It could easily be argued that Fernandes has proven to be a better signing than Romelu Lukaku or Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but we’re sure De Gea has his reasons.
Fernandes hasn’t won the Premier League yet, but only Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo – from De Gea’s list of top teammates — scored more goals for United.
Player | Goals |
Wayne Rooney | 253 |
Cristiano Ronaldo | 145 |
Bruno Fernandes | 95 |
Robin van Persie | 58 |
Romelu Lukaku | 42 |
Zlatan Ibrahimovic | 29 |
Fernandes has his critics but maybe it just skipped De Gea’s mind that Fernandes has been United’s most influential signing in the past 10 years.
