Report: Atletico Madrid interested in Manchester United-owned misfit, £40m demand now looks more realistic

Manchester United need to sell players this summer and Antony may well bring in more money than first anticipated.

Ruben Amorim will want new signings at Manchester United this summer, but balancing the books will be important, too.

United will need to offload some players to bring in quality additions, with Marcus Rashford potentially staying at Aston Villa permanently.

Another United loanee could leave the club on a full-time basis, with Antony catching the eye for Real Betis.

Antony was praised in the Spanish media on Sunday, having helped Real Betis defeat local rivals Sevilla in La Liga.

The Brazilian has bagged four goals and four assists in 12 Real Betis appearances, sparking rival interest in his services.

Atletico Madrid join the hunt for Manchester United’s Antony

iNews report that Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are now interested in signing Antony.

It’s suggested that Atletico are closely monitoring Antony’s performances for Real Betis, with Italian teams also interested.

Real Betis would love to keep Antony permanently, but it’s suggested that United’s asking price is beyond them as things stand.

United wanted £40million for Antony as he headed to Betis, a price few could have expected receiving at the time.

Antony is now thriving in Spain, though, and that price tag suddenly looks a little more attainable.

Whether Atletico are willing to cough up that kind of money remains to be seen, but for United, it’s a case of the more suitors, the better.

United may selfishly hope for a bidding war for Antony come the end of the season – something few could have anticipated back in January.

Antony will have a chance to impress Diego Simeone

Atletico will be keeping close tabs on Antony, but they will actually have a chance to play against him before the end of the season.

Betis travel to take on Atletico on May 18, with Antony in line to play against Simeone’s side.

Atletico will base any transfer decision on more than just that one game, but it certainly offers Antony the chance to impress in Madrid.

Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, has hit back at Ruben Amorim in recent weeks, and we would be stunned to see him in action for United again any time soon.

A sale this summer is best for everybody, but we could see the fight for Antony’s signature becoming much more intense than anybody predicted.
