Antony rules out one summer move as Man Utd star makes £60,000 Real Betis decision

Antony is one of several players that Manchester United are trying to rehome over the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are experiencing hurdle after hurdle when trying to sell players this summer and it is forcing Ineos to slow down their transfer plans.

Matheus Cunha joined United for £62.5m on the very first day of the window but incomings have slowed down because Ineos need to raise funds through sales.

However, Jadon Sancho’s Chelsea move collapsed, Barcelona are not prioritising Marcus Rashford and Real Betis are hesitant to pay Antony’s asking price.

Antony enjoyed an incredible run of form at Betis on loan last season, and he is determined to return this summer.

Antony rules out Como move amid £60,000 Real Betis decision

United now want £33m for Antony this summer after reports suggested his asking price has dropped.

Earlier this week, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed Italian side Como have entered the race for Antony, with Cesc Fabregas hoping to make the Brazilian winger his latest high-profile signing.

However, MundoDeportivo are reporting that Antony has already responded to Como’s interest by telling the club he is prioritising a return to Betis.

Not only is he pushing to rejoin the Spanish side, but he is now willing to accept a 30 percent pay cut to make it happen.

Antony earns £200,000 per week on his United contract, and a 30 percent drop suggests he is happy to accept a £60,000 drop in his salary.

However, it is the transfer fee which is United’s biggest issue – not Antony’s personal terms.

Man United must stick to Antony asking price

Historically, United have been bad at selling in the transfer window and so far this summer is showing why.

Players on big wages are hard to shift, and United are trying to sell some of their highest earners. This time last year, United would have likely accepted a smaller offer for Antony but his incredible form in Spain boosted his value.

Antony was signed for £85m and United are never going to recoup that this summer, but it is important that Ineos do not bow down and reduce their demands.

Financially, United will have to accept a loss on Antony but from a PSR perspective, it is crucial to recoup as much as possible from the Brazilian.

Another loan deal only kicks the can further down the road and next year Antony will enter the final year of his contract, dropping his value to a new low.
