Frantic activity gives Man Utd chance to finally get rid of one of club’s worst-ever signings

Manchester United have done some poor business in the transfer market over the past 10 years – but Jadon Sancho undoubtedly stands out as one of the worst.

It’s no wonder there have been over 20 years of protests over Glazer ownership at Manchester United. The Red Devils are in hundreds of millions worth of debt, and they’ve spent money appallingly in the transfer market.

The Glazers’ time in charge of football operations at Old Trafford came to an end after Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos’ purchase of a minority share in the club in early 2024.

United have had too many flops in recent years. It has made Old Trafford a graveyard for talent, making it a difficult job for any manager to take on board. In some cases, this is the club’s fault, but not always, as seen with Jadon Sancho.

It took United the best part of two years to finally agree a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Sancho, but he only managed to score 12 goals in 83 appearances for the club.

Jadon Sancho edges closer to Man Utd exit

United wasted £72m to sign Sancho and they are now set to make a significant loss on the England international.

After arriving as an unpredictable winger who lit up German football in his youth, Sancho flopped at United and was sent on loan to Chelsea last season. This was his second loan since being frozen out of the squad by Erik ten Hag following a public spat.

Ruben Amorim is unlikely to bring Sancho back into the squad after watching him struggle throughout the season at Chelsea, but there has been interest from around the continent.

There were fears Amorim could struggle to sell Sancho, but that no longer appears to be the case.

Reports in Turkey suggest Sancho has accepted a wage offer from Fenerbahce, with Jose Mourinho’s side optimistic that they could sign the winger this summer.

All of this suggests Sancho is edging closer to his United exit, while Ineos will hope to secure a permanent transfer for a player they deem to be surplus to requirements.

One club that won’t be interested in Sancho this summer is Bayer Leverkusen following their decision to appoint Ten Hag as manager.

Ineos will be relieved by the latest surge of interest in Sancho so long as it means they can get rid of him this summer.

Juventus offer £25m for Sancho

The latest claim regarding Sancho comes from Italy, with a hint that Juventus are advancing on a deal.

According to Italian journalist Marco Giordano, Juventus are trying to finalise a deal with Sancho’s agent.

Giordano understands that United are ready to accept an offer worth £21m (€25m) for Sancho.

While the Red Devils would be making a big loss on Sancho, I think every United fan will be happy to move on from a player who never got them off their seats.
