Man Utd identify ready-made Emi Martinez substitute if Aston Villa star moves to Saudi Arabia, only one obstacle remains

Manchester United have found a transfer alternative to Emiliano Martinez if the Aston Villa star does not make the move to Old Trafford, according to reports.

Emiliano Martinez has been linked with Manchester United and the 32-year-old Argentine shot-stopper is tipped to leave Aston Villa this summer.

Villa are reportedly open to selling Martinez amid the financial difficulties at the Premier League club, despite the player’s role under manager Unai Emery.

Martinez is under contract at Villa Park until 2029 and Villa are reportedly looking for a transfer fee between £30m to £40m for the 2022 World Cup winner.

United are believed to be Martinez’s preferred destination and the Argentina international wants to remain in England after settling in at Villa.

However, Martinez has attracted interest from Galatasaray and the former Arsenal man is also being linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

Man Utd linked with Real Madrid shot-stopper Andriy Lunin amid transfer interest around Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez

Andriy Lunin is under contract with Real Madrid until 2030 and the Ukrainian shot-stopper has been linked with a potential exit from Los Blancos this summer.

Defensa Central reports that Andriy Lunin has been linked with a move to Italy, but a path to England has now opened up with the interest from Manchester United.

It has been claimed that United have ‘made inquiries’ about Lunin with super-agent Jorge Mendes about a move amid the uncertainty around the player’s future.

Lunin has been with Madrid since 2018 after he was signed from Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk and has been loaned out multiple times during his time at the club.

The 26-year-old, who has had loans at Spanish sides Leganes, Real Valladolid and Real Oviedo, inked a new deal with the La Liga club last September.

The stumbling block for Man Utd around Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin and their position on Aston Villa ace Emiliano Martinez

According to Defensa Central, United are not willing to ‘pay more than’ €15m for Andriy Lunin this summer amid Real Madrid’s hefty asking price.

It is believed that Los Blancos want a fee between €20m to €25m for Lunin, who has made 62 appearances for Madrid since his 2018 transfer.

Madrid are reportedly keen to ‘retain’ Lunin’s services for the 2025-26 season at the La Liga club and United’s spending power is currently limited this summer.

AC Milan could rival United with an approach for the Ukraine international amid the uncertainty around club skipper Mike Maignan, who is linked with Chelsea.

Defensa Central added that Emiliano Martinez remains United’s ‘favourite’ option for the summer transfer window, despite the interest from Saudi Arabia this summer.
