Mark Hughes made it clear to one ex-Manchester United talent what he could expect after the player made his exit from Old Trafford and signed for Carlisle United.
The 61-year-old Manchester United legend made his surprise return to management back in February after he was appointed the head coach of Carlisle United.
Mark Hughes’ previous role, ahead of his gig at Carlisle, had been a managerial position at Bradford City, which ended with the ex-United star being sacked in 2023.
The former Manchester City and Fulham manager brought in fellow Welshman Glyn Hodges as his assistant coach at Brunton Park after taking up his duties at Carlisle.
Hughes faced a tough challenge at Brunton Park after his arrival in the 2024-25 campaign and Carlisle were facing a relegation battle in League Two.
The former United player was unable to rescue Carlisle from being relegated to the National League after Cheltenham Town sealed a 3-2 League Two win in April.

Former Man Utd talent Sam Murray reveals his talk with Mark Hughes ahead of his Old Trafford exit and signing for Carlisle United
Sam Murray left Manchester United this summer and the Red Devils talent linked up with Mark Hughes at Carlisle United as part of the next step in his playing career.
The 20-year-old defender rose through the ranks of the United youth academy before he was released from the Premier League club and became a free agent.
Sam Murray had not played for the United first team during his time at Old Trafford, but he now has the chance to develop his career under Red Devils legend Hughes.
The former Red Devils youth academy product has now opened up on how the Carlisle boss sold him on the “project” and vision that they had at the club.
“I’m excited, delighted to be here really,” he told CUTV, as per Carlisle United’s official website.
“I know it’s a great opportunity and I spoke to Mark Hughes last week, spoke to Marc Tierney and heard about the project that they’ve got here and what they want to achieve over the next two years, it was something that I wanted to be a part of.”

Sam Murray represented both Manchester United Under-21s and Under-18s during his time at Old Trafford and is tipped to have a bright future ahead of him.
Carlisle’s new signing has admitted that Brunton Park is the place where he feels he could build on his first-team experience after his release from United.
“Well, I want to, first of all, play football and be playing as much as I can,” he said.
“This club is a big club; it’s got big ambitions and I think it’s a step in the right direction and the right step for me.”
Murray could now receive his first taste of first-team football under Hughes in July as part of Carlisle’s pre-season campaign ahead of their season in the National League.
