It is hard to know what to expect from Manchester United in 2025/26 after the club’s worst-ever Premier League finish last season.
After the final home game of last season, Ruben Amorim promised ‘good times are ahead’ for Manchester United, and supporters will hope that is true.
A 15th-placed finish in 2024/25 paired with defeat in the Europa League final meant United recorded their worst season in modern history.
But with three weeks to go until the start of the new campaign, there is a refreshing optimism around what Amorim and his side could achieve this season, especially after recruiting Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Fans will hope that there are further signings still to come, and that Amorim can lead United back to where they belong.

Rio Ferdinand predicts Man United’s Premier League finish
With no European football this season, there is pressure on Amorim to perform in the Premier League. United will only be playing once each week, with full focus on domestic success.
Ineos expect Amorim to finish top six and secure a return to Europe, but United’s Premier League rivals have been recruiting well this summer.
United legend Rio Ferdinand made his prediction on his latest YouTube video.
“I’m going eighth,” Ferdinand said.
“Seventh or eighth is where we are. But revisit this if we get one or two more signings and I might change my answer.”
Ferdinand clearly wants Ineos to bring in more signings before predicting a top-six finish in 2025/26.
What does success look like for Ruben Amorim in 2025/26?
United fans remain in support of Amorim despite his nightmarish first six months in charge of the club.
Supporters accept that he came into the club during an extremely chaotic period of transition, and he was hardly given any time to implement an entirely new style of play.
But United have impressed in pre-season, with Amorim’s side showing clear patterns of play in the games against Leeds United and West Ham so far.
A top-six finish will be the target for Amorim, and not many United fans will expect much more heading into 2025/26.
Ideally, Ineos will want United back in the Champions League where the Uefa payout is significant, but progress in style of play is just as crucial as anything else.
In terms of cup competitions, United having no European distractions means Amorim’s side should be targeting a deep run in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup next season.
