Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have been told a key detail about former Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres after he finally signed for rivals Arsenal.
Arsenal’s summer-long transfer saga involving former Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres ended with his arrival at the Emirates in an initial £64m move.
The Gunners confirmed their acquisition of Gyokeres on Saturday, with Arsenal agreeing a deal worth up to £73m to land the 27-year-old striker this summer.
Gyokeres inked a five-year deal with Arsenal and the talented Swedish forward previously had an £85m (€100m) release clause in his contract at Sporting CP.
It is believed that Arsenal’s pursuit of the former United-linked striker was initially held up due to the additional payments for Gyokeres as part of the transfer deal.
However, the Gunners finally settled for €10m in add-ons alongside the €63m transfer fee that was initially paid to the reigning Primeira Liga champions.

What former Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres will offer Arsenal ahead of Man Utd’s Premier League opener vs the Gunners
Ruben Amorim is all too familiar with Viktor Gyokeres and the Manchester United manager coached the Arsenal summer signing during his time as Sporting CP boss.
United had been linked with Gyokeres amid the Red Devils’ pursuit of a new striking option this summer and Amorim’s connection with the former Sporting talisman.
However, the Gunners came out on top in signing the ex-Coventry City and Brighton attacking forward, with Amorim now set for a reunion with his former player soon.
United’s Premier League fixture list for the 2025-26 season was revealed in June and the Red Devils face Arsenal on the opening weekend of the campaign in August.
Speaking to BBC Sport, former Brighton assistant coach Bjorn Hamberg has now explained what Gyokeres will bring to Arsenal after his arrival from Sporting.
“He has got the physicality for sure,” he said.
Bjorn Hamberg added: “Obviously, with Arsenal’s front players, there’s going to be competition.
“I think he’s committed to [letting] go again and obviously he understands that Arsenal will be another step up in the ladder.
“At the same time, in his last few seasons, especially in the Champions League, you can see he is probably more prepared than ever to take that challenge on.”
The important detail in Viktor Gyokeres’ playing style and what Man Utd can expect for the Premier League match vs Arsenal
Bjorn Hamberg, who was assistant coach at Brighton when Gyokeres was at the club, added that a “really big thing” about Arsenal’s new signing is his versatility.
“He improves every year and normally stays fit,” he continued.
“He’s just one of those players who is good around the box, a good finisher, but he’s also quite strong in transition and in big spaces.
“So, he’s quite versatile in that sense and I think that’s a really big thing in the Premier League.”
United and Arsenal’s Premier League match for the 2025-26 season will be played at Old Trafford on 17th August, with kick-off slated for 4:30pm UK time.
