Ruben Amorim gave a mysterious injury update ahead of Manchester United vs West Ham and it is now clear that Matthijs de Ligt was the player in question.
Ahead of West Ham’s trip to Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim revealed that United had two players in doubt because of injury.
The Manchester United boss chose not to name the players in question as their availability would “change the way we’re going to approach it”.
Man Utd CONFIRMED XI vs West Ham ⚽
Matthijs de Ligt was absent from United’s confirmed line-up against West Ham, meaning the Dutch defender will lose his record of having played every minute of the 2025/26 campaign.

Ruben Amorim injury update on Matthijs de Ligt
Speaking ahead of kick-off at Old Trafford, Amorim was asked by Gary Neville why De Ligt was absent.
Thankfully, Amorim revealed that it is only a short-term setback for the 26-year-old centre-back.

“It’s a small thing, I expect to have him back in the next game. The rest of the guys they are ready,” Amorim said.
“Ayden Heaven is going to play in that position. He has a big character. He’s ready to play in that position.”
Amorim was not wrong in his pre-match assessment about De Ligt’s absence changing United’s approach. With Harry Maguire also injured, United are without both defenders who usually play in the heart of the back three.
Why Leny Yoro was dropped for Man Utd vs West Ham
In the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, Leny Yoro appeared dejected after the full-time whistle.
Leny Yoro had conceded a penalty in the first half which saw United fall behind, and he was taken off by Amorim in the second half.
Mason Mount consoled Yoro, but the 20-year-old defender was left out of the starting line-up by Amorim despite the shortage of centre-backs.
Amorim explained: “We need to think about everything. On the TV he was really disappointed with his performance. I need to be normal all the time, about the message and the trouble that comes with seeing a United player disappointed on the bench.
“But it’s just a tactical decision, and only that.”
