Man Utd fans give verdict on where the team would be right now if Ruben Amorim was still in charge

Manchester United are currently third in the Premier League after a superb run under Michael Carrick. But what would the alternative look like?

When Manchester United fired Ruben Amorim at the start of January, the club were ranked in sixth place in the Premier League table.

There were 18 games remaining. Now there are are only seven matches left this season, and United are up to third position.

It is a fantastic turnaround that interim boss Michael Carrick deserves huge credit for.

After Darren Fletcher took charge for one league game (a draw), Carrick has won seven, drawn two and lost one of his 10 matches in charge.

We have been asking what the alternative would have looked like, if Ruben Amorim had stayed in charge…

United fans on Ruben Amorim

Manchester United fans on TalkingPoints have been giving their thoughts on where the team would be if Ruben Amorim had still been in charge.

He would have had to face Burnley (a), Man City (h), Arsenal (a), Fulham (h), West Ham (a), Tottenham (h), Everton (a), Crystal Palace (h), Newcastle (a), Aston Villa (h), and Bournemouth (a).

There have been some really tricky games, and Carrick has done incredibly well to put United on course for Champions League qualification.

Amorim was sixth when he was sacked, just outside these places.

One fan expressed his view that United would be out of the Champions League race under Amorim, languishing in mid-table.

Mid table

This was echoed by another supporter, who pointed out that United likely would have lost Kobbie Mainoo if Amorim stayed in charge, as well as being stuck in mid-table.

Ruben sacked himself anyone who knows the club as ruben did understood the certainly predictable outcome from the club, after his comments, much like Ronaldo after the Morgan debacle, however man u would be mid table now, with kobbie gone.

Another supporter took it a step further, arguing that United would be worse than last season, claiming ‘we’d be in the bottom three’.

I believe we’d be worse than last season if Amorin was still incharge we’d be in the bottom three. All utd fans are backing Carrick, what he’s achieved is nothing short of a mricale, he’s made us all believe again!!!!!

This opinion was shared by another fan, who wrote: ‘we will join Wolves in championship’.

We will join Wolves in championship

An earlier message posted that United would be ‘hovering around 12th’ if Amorim was still in charge, before thanking Michael Carrick for avoiding this scenario.

If Amorin was still in charge we would be hovering around 12th. Thank you Michael Carrick.

A further message agreed that Ruben Amorim’s stubborn nature and commitment to his tactical plan would have continued to be his downfall.

“11th, 12th or even below that,” they wrote.

I agree with most comments here, 11th, 12th or even below that. Ruben was a very, very stubborn coach, I think that was his downfall at ManUtd. Seasoned coaches like the Pep Guardiolas, change their formations according to the oppenent’s strength & what’s bad about it.
