Casemiro drops powerful Man Utd prediction for 'important' teammate's career long after he leaves Old Trafford

Casemiro has tipped Brazil teammate Matheus Cunha to be an integral part of the Manchester United first-team squad beyond his playing spell at Old Trafford.

Matheus Cunha was a marquee signing made last summer after Manchester United triggered the £62.5m release clause in his contract at Premier League side Wolves.

Casemiro has been able to witness first-hand Man Utd summer signing Cunha settle into life at Old Trafford in his final season with the Premier League club.

Former Wolves ace Cunha has netted seven times and picked up four assists in 30 matches across all competitions in his debut campaign with the Red Devils so far.

Brazil star Casemiro is happy to have played a key part in Matheus Cunha’s early chapter at Man Utd

Matheus Cunha had a slow start to life at Old Trafford and the 26-year-old Brazilian went his first eight Manchester United matches without finding the back of the net.

However, the Brazil international finally broke his goalscoring drought in the 2025-26 campaign after scoring the opener in Man Utd’s 4-2 win over Brighton last October.

Bruno Fernandes lofted the ball to Casemiro before the former Real Madrid midfielder expertly controlled it and slotted a pass through to an unmarked Cunha.

Cunha fired a superb low right-footed strike from outside of the Seagulls box and his effort put Man Utd 1-0 up against Brighton at Old Trafford in the Premier League tie.

When asked about his ‘favourite’ assist, Casemiro told Manchester United’s official website: “I don’t know if it is my favourite, but one I like is one I did [last] year for Cunha, because he is a player that I have a lot of affection for, and he wanted to open his goalscoring account and I was the first to give him an assist.”

Casemiro sends a clear-cut message about Matheus Cunha’s importance at Man Utd for the long term

Cunha has been growing in confidence as the Premier League season has progressed and Casemiro underlined his ‘significance’ to the Red Devils.

“I am sure he will always remember it, as he is a player that is going to be so important for Man Utd, and I was able to give him his first assist,” Casemiro continued.

Casemiro has only seven Premier League matches left in his Man Utd playing spell before the 34-year-old Brazilian midfielder leaves Old Trafford in the summer.
