Sverre Nypan is a Norwegian youngster who Manchester United looked guaranteed to sign before Ineos decided to pass, and he joined Manchester City.
It looked like the most obvious transfer of all time, with Manchester United holding long-term interest in Sverre Nypan.
The former Rosenborg youngster played United during 2024 pre-season, which many assumed saw him against his future club.
Nypan had dreamed of joining United, but when it came down to a move, Ineos pulled away, unconvinced. One year on, they have been completely justified for this.

Jack Fletcher outperforms Sverre Nypan this season after £12.5m transfer
For his 2024 Christmas gift, Nypan was given a United calendar, yet six months later, he joined Manchester City instead.
Since then, it is safe to say the move hasn’t been a success for him, with a failed loan to Middlesbrough followed by a return to City’s U21 ranks in January.
There, he has been decent, scoring three and assisting one in seven games, but for a player who cost £12.5m last summer, he hasn’t been impressive and has been outshone by Jack Fletcher.
In the Premier League 2, Fletcher himself has four goals and six assists in 13 games, which is a better return than his Norwegian counterpart.
Fletcher even played for United at a senior level, all while only costing United around £750,000, which is nothing in comparison to Nypan’s fee.
So United’s decision to snub Nypan and trust Fletcher so far looks genius, but this summer there will be a new race, and Ineos shouldn’t let this one slip away.
Manchester United can’t let City win Kennet Eichhorn race
This summer, one of the most exciting youth signings on the market is 16-year-old Kennet Eichhorn, and a fierce transfer race is already in progress.
United were first linked to Eichhorn in November, and since then, the Hertha Berlin midfielder has only continued to rise while performing in the Bundesliga 2.
Compared with Toni Kroos, the German talent is highly regarded, but United face a complicated battle for Eichhorn.
Now, further complicating the matter, Fabrizio Romano claims City has entered the race.
United and City won’t be duking it out alone, though, with Bayern Munich also in the race and likely the favourites, along with other big Bundesliga and Premier League clubs.
