Kobbie Mainoo’s biggest ‘lesson’ from ‘last six months’ identified by Roy Keane after Man Utd winner vs Liverpool

Roy Keane has dropped a powerful verdict on England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo after the Manchester United star’s impact against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo came to Manchester United’s rescue against Liverpool in the second half and the 21-year-old midfielder opened his goalscoring account this season.

Man Utd had blown a 2-0 lead against Liverpool after the break before Mainoo fired a stunning long-range strike into the bottom corner of the net in the 77th minute.

Freddie Woodman was rooted to the spot between the Liverpool sticks during Mainoo’s strike, which later ensured that United sealed a 3-2 win at Old Trafford.

Roy Keane explains the most important takeaway for Kobbie Mainoo amid the Man Utd star’s resurgence

Kobbie Mainoo’s stunning run of form has seen the Stockport-born talent commit himself to a new long-term deal with Manchester United earlier this week.

The former United youth academy prospect also climbed back into the England national team under Thomas Tuchel after his resurgence under Michael Carrick.

Mainoo has started 13 of the 14 Premier League matches that Michael Carrick has led at Old Trafford since Ruben Amorim was sacked as Man Utd manager in January.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Roy Keane is convinced the Man Utd midfielder’s last six months will show him the highs and lows a player will ‘experience’ in their career.

“The last six months will be quite good for him,” he said.

“For a young player at a big club, he comes on the scene and getting all the headlines, doing well and then getting involved with England.

“The last few months, people have been talking about him going out on loan, but I always said that sometimes you have to sit and learn, watch the game and the team.

“In football, there are good and bad experiences and I’ll think he’ll learn [more] from [these] last few months than when he first got into the team.”

United legend Keane highlighted that Mainoo has not even reached his ‘peak’ and the Three Lions international will only continue to develop in his playing career.

“He’s had to mature, he’s got his new deal, he’s had to learn his trade,” he continued.

“He’s a young player, he’s still learning, he’s got years before he even peaks.

“He’s surrounded by experienced players, hopefully they’re helping him, so it’s been no bad thing.

“The only problem is, when people talk about [whether] he’s explosive enough, can you improve on that if you’re not quick off the mark?”

Mainoo has made 27 appearances across all competitions this season and the England ace has netted once and registered three assists for his side.
