Manchester United are considering several midfielders right now, with as many as three expected to be on the agenda for Ineos.
Champions League football being confirmed for Manchester United means that the summer transfer plans and budget can finally be set.
Having a seat at Europe’s top table opens up United to signing bigger names and competing for top signings.
United will have seen the chances of signing Elliot Anderson boosted, while Aurelien Tchouameni is also a signing not possible without Champions League football.
Now, another deal is moving forward.

Manchester United moving forward in Mateus Fernandes transfer race
One of the more underrated midfield options being considered by Manchester United this summer is PSG-linked Mateus Fernandes, who currently plays for West Ham.
Mateus Fernandes has been recommended by Bruno Fernandes to the United recruitment department, with the club captain clearly impressed by his compatriot.
Now, according to the Telegraph, United are intensifying their efforts to sign Fernandes, having watched and been impressed with him all season for the relegation-threatened West Ham.
The Hammers don’t want to sell Fernandes, but even if they stay up, keeping hold of him will be tough.
However, their negotiating standpoint has weakened in the past few days, as they dropped into the bottom three, and Fernandes is therefore getting cheaper by the week right now.
At 21, Fernandes is already so well-rounded and would comfortably add bags to United’s team in all three midfield positions, wherever needed.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 16 | 34 | 10 | 9 | 15 | 41 | 45 | -4 | 39 | |
| 17 | 35 | 9 | 10 | 16 | 45 | 54 | -9 | 37 | |
| 18 | 35 | 9 | 9 | 17 | 42 | 61 | -19 | 36 | |
| 19 | 35 | 4 | 8 | 23 | 35 | 71 | -36 | 20 | |
| 20 | 35 | 3 | 9 | 23 | 25 | 63 | -38 | 18 |
Despite his current club, Fernandes is another United will have needed Champions League football to sign, considering the other interested clubs are a level above who Ineos beat to Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko last summer.
But a deal is being made easier for all parties by West Ham’s potential relegation.
Bruno Fernandes would love Mateus Fernandes to join
As aforementioned, Bruno has reportedly told United to sign Mateus, which in itself means the club should listen, considering he knows what it takes to be a great Premier League midfielder.
But additionally, Mateus Fernandes loves Bruno Fernandes, admitting his respect for the United captain during an interview recently with O Jogo in Portugal.
“The biggest one right now is Bruno [Fernandes] because of the player he already is.
“Back when I was at Sporting, I looked up to him and tried to learn from him. He plays in the same league as me, he has a lot of experience with the national team, and, in the Premier League, I try to watch him a lot. Without a doubt, he stands out.”
Adding a player who idolises Bruno would be smart for United, as it gives him a chance to learn under the number eight, while also showing he would be a good fit in the current squad.
