Marcus Rashford faces one predicament if Barcelona do not sign him permanently and he returns to Manchester United under Michael Carrick in the summer.
The 28-year-old England star’s loan deal with Barcelona will expire at the end of the month and the club have not indicated if they are prepared to trigger his buy option.
Marcus Rashford would cost Barcelona only £30.3m for a permanent move to the Camp Nou, but his future is now up in the air after Anthony Gordon’s latest move.
The La Liga champions stunned the world last month after Barcelona agreed a whopping £69.3m deal to sign England winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.

If Marcus Rashford plays again for Man Utd, the Barcelona forward is limited on his shirt number picks for Michael Carrick’s side
Anthony Gordon’s blockbuster transfer to the Camp Nou has been a real spanner in the works for Marcus Rashford, who could well end up back at Old Trafford now.
Michael Carrick has refused to close the door on the Barcelona star returning to the Premier League club, despite the soured relationship between Rashford and United.
In the time since Rashford last played for Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils No 10 shirt has transferred hands to forward Matheus Cunha.
Rashford has also worn the No 19 and No 39 shirts in the United first-team squad since his emergence under former Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
However, Bryan Mbeumo has laid claim to the No 19 shirt since his 2025 move to Brentford and midfielder Tyler Fletcher wears Rashford’s former No 39 number.
Marcus Rashford’s shirt number choice is limited at Man Utd, even if Michael Carrick opens the door for his return
United legend Michael Carrick is expected to welcome several new signings to Old Trafford this summer as part of Ineos’ continued squad rebuild at the Red Devils.
With the numbers expected to become more limited this summer, Rashford could have little choice but to accept any shirt number at the Premier League club.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona will trigger Rashford’s permanent buy option or try to explore another loan move for him after their Anthony Gordon acquisition.
Rashford is believed to want a move away from Old Trafford in the summer, despite his relationship with former United teammate Carrick at the Premier League side.
The Three Lions star’s lack of shirt number picks, including any of the former ones that he wore, is another dilemma for him to deeply mull over about a Man Utd return.
