Rating each Manchester United player based on their performances in the first seven games of the 2026/27 season.
A look at Manchester United’s results so far this season tells you that expectations are not being met. Michael Carrick could do no wrong as interim head coach, but his team now has just two wins in seven matches.
There are many factors at play for those wanting to play the blame game. Ineos’ decision-making prompts more questions than answers, Carrick’s in-game management, and the players not showing enough intensity in games.
United need to improve after the international break. The ratings below – for each player so far this season (with 90+ minutes played) – are further proof of that.
Goalkeepers
Senne Lammens – 6/10: Yet to keep a clean sheet, but made six critical saves to preserve a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage. It feels like he’s being massively let down by the defenders in the team.
Karl Darlow – 2/10: After a nightmare-inducing debut, Darlow has done anything but fill us with confidence as a back-up option.
Defenders
Leny Yoro – 4/10: Still young, developing, and yet to make a claim to start in a team crying out for in-form defenders. Rotated into the starting line-up as United conceded three goals in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton.
Lisandro Martinez – 5/10: The highest-rated defender purely because United have benefited – at times (not enough) – from his ability to pass the ball forward from defence. His defending has been disappointing, just like his teammates’.
Harry Maguire – 4/10: Didn’t return well for pre-season, and that has carried on into the competitive season. A big concern because Maguire is a starter when everyone is fit.
Ayden Heaven – 3/10: Fewer positives to report than Yoro, which is why he has a lower rating. We need to see a big improvement if Heaven is to become a regular in the line-up.
Luke Shaw – 2/10: United are most vulnerable down the left flank. I’ve lost count of the number of times Shaw’s man has got the better of him, only to whip balls into the box. This should be his final season at the club.
Noussair Mazraoui – 2/10: The Morocco international has been a liability every time he’s played this season. He’s been so bad that people are now accepting that Diogo Dalot deserves to start.
Diogo Dalot – 3/10: Like Shaw on the left, a constant concern. If he’s not failing to stop crosses from getting into the box, he’s interrupting attacking transitions.
Patrick Dorgu – 3/10: Although listed as a defender, Dorgu has made most of his appearances on the wing under Carrick. The Dane hasn’t hit the ground running and has fallen behind Marcus Rashford in the pecking order. He performed abysmally at left-back in the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton.
Midfielders
Kobbie Mainoo – 7/10: United’s silver lining this season. The academy graduate is standing out in games when most of his teammates’ performances are below par.
Youri Tielemans – 5/10: It hasn’t been a great start for Tielemans, but it’s clear United have signed a good player. It may just be a matter of Carrick needing more time to settle on the best combinations to play in the middle of the pitch.
Andrey Santos – 4/10: The Brazilian hasn’t played as much as he would have liked, and I haven’t seen anything to suggest that he should be playing more.
Bruno Fernandes – 6/10: Four goals in seven matches isn’t a bad return for a midfielder, but this isn’t Fernandes at his best. Hopefully, United’s captain can have a greater impact on results after returning from international duty with Portugal.
Mason Mount – 4/10: It’s hardly a surprise that Mount has spent most of the season injured. His impact in the games he’s played has been minimal.
Attackers
Matheus Cunha – 4/10: Unfortunate to be shoehorned into the striker role due to Benjamin Sesko, with Carrick opting for Rashford on the left wing. He opened his goal account for the season with an important equaliser in United’s 1-1 draw against Fulham.
Bryan Mbeumo – 4/10: Not the start to the season many hoped Mbeumo would have after the form he showed in pre-season. His objective will be to build on his tally of two goals following the international break.
Benjamin Sesko – 5/10: Sesko has two goals after playing just 206 minutes. His game time has been limited by a shin injury, which recurred ahead of the break. He needs a run of games as soon as possible.
Marcus Rashford – 4/10: Yet to score since returning from his Barcelona loan, Rashford has done the bare minimum so far. United need goals.
