Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel has been training with the first team again.
With Manchester United training ahead of this weekend’s clash with Everton, 15-year-old wonderkid JJ Gabriel has been involved in the preparations.
Gabriel’s presence in the squad speaks volumes about how highly rated he is at the club. He made a brief appearance in pre-season against Atletico Madrid.
Michael Carrick spoke about Gabriel at his press conference last week, explaining that he is acclimating to stepping up a level physically.
This season Gabriel has been playing under-21 football. In two games, one of which he started on the bench, the teenager has two goals and two assists.
Gabriel trained with the first team last season too. But the timing of his latest call is interesting because there are big opportunities ahead.

JJ Gabriel won’t be involved in the Premier League this coming weekend. But there are three upcoming matches where he might have some involvement.
Thursday September 10: Man Utd vs Sabah
Manchester United’s first Champions League game since 2024. This also happens to be ‘on paper’ the easiest match of the eight games the club will play.
Clubs are permitted to name up to 12 substitutes in the matchday squad. While only five can be used, there is a chance Gabriel is included.
If United are able to win the game easily, there is a chance Gabriel could get a few minutes towards the end.
Saturday September 12: Man Utd U21s vs Man City U21s
One day ahead of the Premier League derby between Manchester United and Manchester City, the under-21s will do battle.
JJ Gabriel will likely start this fixture, and United will be assessing how he fares in the biggest under-21 game of his career to date.
Gabriel will be out for revenge after United lost the FA Youth Cup Final to City last season. A strong showing here could enhance his first team credentials.
Wednesday September 16: Man Utd vs Brighton
The Carabao Cup has frequently been the competition managers use to give youngsters their first opportunity, rotating squads in the early rounds.
United landed a tough draw against Brighton, so this certainly counts against Gabriel, but it would not be a surprise to see him on the bench.
It might even be preferable to give Gabriel a chance against a Premier League side than against lower league opposition. United could learn more from it.
