"Very pleased": Ten Hag shuts down team spirit queries following 'furious dressing room confrontation'

Erik ten Hag has shut down any questions that may be asked about team spirit in his post-match interview yesterday against Burnley.

The Dutchman needed a win yesterday, and his team delivered. A Bruno Fernandes volley was the difference at Turf Moor, which gave United a much-needed third victory of the season.

It’s been a really tough start to the 23/24 campaign for the Red Devils. Injuries galore, personal issues and poor performances have all contributed to a nightmare first seven fixtures.

Last week, a 3-1 loss to Brighton was reported to be the breaking point for some players – with a ‘furious dressing room confrontation’ occurring after the full-time whistle.

‘Furious dressing room confrontation’

The report came from The Sun, which stated: “SunSport can reveal captain Bruno Fernandes confronted fellow midfielder Scott McTominay after United’s third defeat in four games.

“While centre-back pairing Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof also lost it with each other following a calamitous defensive display.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, United denied this occurring with Erik ten Hag remaining in control of the situation and focused on the project despite a poor start.

Speaking after the Burnley win, via Match of the Day, the manager spoke about how things have been rough recently, but the win today will be a big boost.

“There were a lot of things against us, like the injuries, but also decisions tonight. It’s Murphy’s law,” he said.

He then went on to explain how despite the problems, he and his team are happy.

“I’m very pleased with the spirit in the team and it shows the dressing room is together and they fight together and they want to transfer the way of play on the pitch.”

Positive news from the gaffer. Togetherness is a huge part of football and it’s evident when a team have no synergy. Let’s hope if it did happen, that the bust-up was a one-off.
