34-year-old Man Utd target could be just what £64m ace needs to thrive - opinion

Manchester United are said to be looking a make a move for move Eric Choupo-Moting in January, he could be the ideal signing.

Manchester United have once again struggled to be clinical in front of goal this season.

This was to be expected from Rasmus Hojlund as he was always going to require a bedding-in period at the club after his £64m move.

However, the problem comes as he has been starting far too many games which has caused him to be overexposed at an early period.

This is due to the fact Anthony Martial simply hasn’t performed in a manner that he is capable of, leading to his expected departure from Old Trafford.

Now, in January, United are believed to be keen on bringing in an experienced forward who will be able to support him upfront.

Manchester United should sign Eric Choupo-Moting

In terms of a short-term option United should look no further than bringing in Bayern Munich forward Eric Choupo-Moting.

It’s been reported that the Cameroon international forward is now ready to talk with United about a move.

At 34-years-old, he is likely happy to settle for a rotational place and he could be perfect to have as an option to rotate with Hojlund.

Choupo-Moting is a proven goalscorer and as recent as last season was a 10 goal Bundesliga forward. He is 6ft 3in and good both on and off the ball which is the style of forward Ten Hag likes – plus he’d be extremely cheap given his contract expires in June.

He’d be an excellent player for Hojlund to work with and observe as he has been severely underrated his entire career, but having played for PSG along with Bayern, he’s a player would be useful in the short term at Old Trafford.

Not the first time Manchester United have targetted Choupo-Moting

Back in 2022, Choupo-Moting was linked with a move to United as the Daily Mail claimed the Red Devils were ‘seriously considering’ the former Stoke man.

The fact there has been interest for such a period of time now should point to the fact United are well versed in what the forward could bring to the club.

This could signal that it’s a thought out acquisition to cover for the exit of Martial until the summer when a more permanent option can be signed by Ineos.
