What Sir Alex Ferguson flop signing did after Man Utd Legends destroyed Liverpool Legends is ultimate icing on the cake

Manchester United flop signing Eric Djemba-Djemba rubbed salt into the wounds of Liverpool fans after the Red Devils’ legends team thrashed the Reds 4-1.

Manchester United’s legends took part in a football match at the Suphachalasai Stadium in Thailand, including Paul Scholes, Dwight Yorke and Teddy Sheringham.

The Nation Thailand on Sunday reported that the clash was dubbed ‘Battle of the Reds Thailand 2024,’ which ended in a big scoreline win for United.

According to the outlet, Liverpool’s team featured a star-studded roster of players, including the likes of Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen.

Goals from Dwight Yorke, Keith Gillespie, Danny Webber and Lee Sharpe sealed the win for United, with John Durnin scoring for Liverpool in the contest.

The Nation Thailand reports that United players were presented with the Battle of the Reds Thailand 2024 trophy after the match at Suphachalasai Stadium.

Djemba-Djemba’s post after Man Utd win

Sir Alex Ferguson infamously signed Eric Djemba-Djemba during his legendary reign at Old Trafford, with Manchester United paying £3.5m to land him from Nantes.

However, Djemba-Djemba had a disastrous spell at Old Trafford and the United flop only managed 39 appearances for the Red Devils under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 43-year-old former midfielder, who lifted an FA Cup with United, was sold to Aston Villa in 2005 after failing to make his mark at the Red Devils.

Djemba-Djemba took to Instagram after United Legends’ win and the former Red Devils player relished in the victory over Liverpool in Thailand.

The former Cameroon international posed with the Battle of the Reds Thailand 2024 trophy in his photo while claiming it was “one more trophy” for his cabinet.

“One more trophy, Manchester United legends 4, Liverpool legends 1, what a pleasure, I still come home with it and yes thank you Lord, I give you thanks [sic],” he wrote to his followers.

Djemba-Djemba’s admiration for Ferguson

Despite his flop spell at Old Trafford, Djemba-Djemba still holds former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in high regard after the impact that he had on him.

“Sir Alex is one of the best coaches in the world and I will never, never forget him because he changed my life,” he told the UTD Podcast in 2022, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“He changed my life. Ferguson changed my life because he [wanted] everybody to know about me when I signed for Manchester United.

“I enjoyed working with him. I was impressed in the beginning. I start to listen and understand what he says to me because I was speaking sometimes with [Darren] Fletcher.

“But it was nice because Fergie spoke to me. Sometimes he would call me into the dressing room and ask me if everything is OK. Are you OK? Do you need something? Your family, are they OK? Do you want to see your family?”
