Report: Man Utd learn price tag for Carlos Baleba alternative, Ineos might have to move quick

Manchester United’s planned midfield overhaul for 2026 is taking shape, with a strong shortlist of players being considered as signings.

The only thing missing from Manchester United’s 2025 summer transfer window being perfect was a new midfielder, but Ineos are plotting to rectify this in 2026.

Already, United have agreed to sign exciting wonderkid Cristian Orozco, but he will be joined by a big-money midfielder to be placed directly into the first-team line-up.

Carlos Baleba is one target for United, as is Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace. Additionally, United in Focus have exclusively revealed that Manu Kone is being considered by United as an outside option.

However, it is a move to sign Elliot Anderson, which is looking more and more likely.

How much Nottingham Forest want to sell Elliott Anderson

Currently playing for a struggling Nottingham Forest side, Anderson has established himself to be one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League.

United scouts have issued ‘glowing reviews’ about Anderson, as he continues to be closely monitored as a serious option for the summer.

Now, The Daily Mirror has claimed that Forest’s price tag for Anderson is set, with a £75m demand issued to ward off clubs.

United will probably have no problem paying this come next summer, with Anderson absolutely on his way to being worth the fee.

Anderson is also being hunted by Manchester City and Chelsea, meaning it will be a fierce battle for the Geordie.

Manchester United need to make efforts to wrap up Elliot Anderson deal early

While there won’t be any big additions in January, this shouldn’t mean United stalls efforts until next summer.

TalkingPoints

Which midfielder should Manchester United sign in 2026?

This is because United cannot afford to wait until after the World Cup to make the midfield signing; instead, whoever is chosen needs to be announced on June 1st.

Anderson looks like a definite for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, and therefore, his price tag might skyrocket if the World Cup goes successfully for the Three Lions.

If United chooses Anderson, the deal needs to be done in advance, maybe even in January if Forest’s turmoil continues and he is looking for an escape route.
