Manchester United’s biggest success story this season on the loan list has been Harry Amass at Sheffield Wednesday.
The young wing-back was sent out on loan to the Championship relegation favourites, Sheffield Wednesday. Here, Manchester United expected him to get plenty of game time and experience developing his physical and defensive qualities.
Harry Amass has absolutely excelled at Hillsborough, becoming a key figure within his team and arguably their best player right now.
United have been thrilled with Amass’ loan, and there is expected to be an extension to the loan, which currently expires in January, but he’s just reached new heights.

Harry Amass assists Charlie McNeill for Sheffield Wednesday
Amass has been top class for Sheffield Wednesday, and that continued this weekend as he started in a very advanced wing-back role against Preston North End.
The decision to play Amass so high up the pitch paid off immediately for Wednesday, as three minutes in, he got his first assist in professional football.
Does Ruben Amorim need to improve his use of the academy?⭐️
Amass beat a defender before dribbling into the box, where he cut it back to a waiting fellow United academy alumnus, Charlie McNeill, who scored his first goal for the club.
Carrington assist, to Carrington goal is something that United haven’t seen this season, and you have to go all the way back to January 2025 against FCSB when Alejandro Garnacho assisted Kobbie Mainoo to find the last time it happened.
This is an embarrassing record that keeps getting worse for United.
Ruben Amorim needs to use Carrington to save himself at Manchester United
This season, it is known that Amorim hasn’t trusted the academy as much as a United manager should, which is a continuing frustration many fans have over the Portuguese coach.
What makes matters worse is seeing Carrington graduates and non-graduates shining elsewhere, with Marseille (Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood) and Everton (James Garner) recent clubs to experience success from Carrington.
Wednesday has now joined this list, and it should prove to Amorim that the academy has players worthy of playing, and they may already be better than the struggling first-team players at the club right now.
