The Red Devils suffered their first major setback in recent weeks after United’s shock defeat to 10-man Everton in the Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Monday.

United were toothless against Everton and the Toffees defied the odds on their visit to Old Trafford, especially after Idrissa Gueye was sent off early in the first half.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall broke the deadlock for David Moyes’ men on Monday evening and Ruben Amorim’s men were left chasing the Premier League match.

Paul Merson on Oliver Glasner and Ruben Amorim ahead of Crystal Palace vs Man Utd

Manchester United had not lost in their last five Premier League matches ahead of Everton inflicting their shock 1-0 win over the Red Devils earlier this week.

Speaking in his column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson has admitted that the Red Devils produced a woeful response to the Toffees in their clash at Old Trafford.

“Manchester United were shocking last week,” he said.

“Everton went down to 10 men and still scored to win that game at Old Trafford.

“That was a really poor performance from Ruben Amorim’s team.”

Ruben Amorim’s side are 10th in the Premier League after the setback to Everton, while Crystal Palace are fifth and the Eagles are two points clear of United.

Merson added that Oliver Glasner and United manager Amorim do share similarities, but he said that the Palace manager is not as “stubborn” as his rival counterpart.

“If United are looking for a new manager, then they must be keeping an eye on Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner,” he continued.

“He plays the same system as Amorim. The only difference is that while Glasner has the players to deploy that system, Amorim doesn’t and is being too stubborn about not playing any other way!”

What is Paul Merson’s Premier League prediction for Crystal Palace against Man Utd at Selhurst Park?

Merson was deeply critical of Amorim’s tactical system for United and is still not convinced that the Red Devils have adapted to the demands of the coach’s tactics.

The 57-year-old Sky Sports pundit believes that United will fall to back-to-back Premier League defeats after their visit to Selhurst Park at midday on Sunday.

“When United went and got Amorim, they brought him in for the way his Sporting team played,” Merson explained.

“He has been there for a year now and you would think they have had enough time to adapt.

“But unfortunately, Manchester United are far from being consistent. I think they will lose again.”

Glasner’s men are tipped to walk away with all three Premier League points on the weekend and Merson has predicted a 2-1 scoreline in favour of Palace.
