South American expert says Ederson is the same 'mould' of player as £100m Man Utd target

Manchester United fans have been told what they can expect from Ederson as Ineos close in on a deal for the midfielder.

A midfield rebuild is on the horizon at Manchester United, and it seems as though Atalanta midfielder Ederson could be the first through the door.

Ederson is set to cost £38 million, with reports suggesting a deal for the Brazilian could be done by the end of the week.

Based on his style of play, Ederson would be a great partner for Kobbie Mainoo in midfield, and a South American football expert has now given his verdict on the signing.

Ederson compared to Bruno Guimaraes by expert

Speaking to BBC Sport, South American football writer Tim Vickery gave his view on Ederson joining United.

“Casemiro is leaving the Red Devils – and Manuel Ugarte could follow,” Vickery wrote.

“Ederson offers more on the ball than the Uruguayan and is more dynamic around the field.

“He is a midfielder in the mould of Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes. After three splendid seasons in Italy with Atalanta, Ederson would seem overdue for a move – and may blame his final season in Serie A for missing out on the World Cup.

“Old Trafford calls for big personalities, and the good news for United fans is Ederson has dealt well with difficult circumstances.”

Casemiro wanted Bruno Guimaraes, Man Utd have the next best thing

When speaking about who should replace him at Old Trafford, Casemiro recommended Bruno Guimaraes as a signing.

However, Guimaraes is expected to cost £100 million this summer if he leaves Newcastle. Considering United have a £150 million budget for midfielders, that would take a sizeable chunk.

Frankly, signing Guimaraes seems an impossible task this summer, so it seems Ineos have gone for the next best option in Ederson.

If Vickery is right, and Ederson is similar in profile to Guimaraes, then it bodes well for him adapting to the Premier League.

And, at £38 million, it could yet be a bargain deal for United.
