Extremely valuable United ace listed for sale with 20m price tag

Manchester United have put midfielder Fred up for sale ahead of what is expected to be a summer of change at Old Trafford.

Fred appears to be the next name on the chopping block as Erik ten Hag looks to add to his reportedly underwhelming budget.

A price tag of £20m has been placed on the 30-year-old with Fulham appearing to be keen, according to The Telegraph.

The report continues to suggest Fred would also be keen on a move to London. He would likely fit right in with fellow Brazilians Willian and Andreas Pereira already at Craven Cottage.

It’s no surprise that Fulham would fancy a move for United’s number 17, given the events last month after United beat Fulham 2-1.

The Metro reported that Fred was seen embracing Marco Silva after the two conversed at length with many believing a transfer to be on both their lips.

With Fulham looking to build on their impressive season, a midfield of João Palhinha, Fred and Pereira could be solid enough to see them sustain a top 10 finish.

How can United replace Fred?

Losing Fred would diminish ten Hag’s midfield options, therefore requiring replacements to be signed in his place.

Fred while not a starting calibre midfielder, does possess a certain intangible quality.

At his best when coming off the bench, former interim boss Ralf Rangnick described Fred as “extremely valuable”.

The current most likely midfielder to come in seems to be England’s Mason Mount. Of course any made money from a potential Fred deal will likely directly funding that.

Fred seems likely to be joined as a departure from United by his colleague Scott McTominay. The Scottish midfielder has been linked with a move to Newcastle and West Ham.

The departure of these two would represent the end of an era for United, a thankful goodbye to ‘McFred’.
