Manchester United look set to appoint their next manager after Erik ten Hag – with the man for the role allegedly Ruben Amorim.
Amorim has ‘verbally agreed’ to join Manchester United, as confirmed by the reliable David Ornstein – so it appears the Red Devils aren’t waiting around to get a new man in at Old Trafford.
Manchester United supporters didn’t really even get a chance to say goodbye to Ten Hag before they now have to say hello to Amorim. It was quick work from Ineos.
As the news broke on social media, United fans gave their initial thoughts on the impending appointment.
Manchester United fans react to Ruben Amorim news
Red Devils faithful immediately took to X, formerly Twitter, to react to the news. The majority seem very optimistic.
One said: ‘Unproven at the highest level, but he won Sporting’s first league title 19 years and he’s got a number of admirers across football. I can get on board with it, but we must give him time.’
Another puts: ‘This was the swiftness we was looking for! This is why I was willing to give them time! The football people they hired are serious! This is a very good appointment and i hope he adapts well and plays good football and gives us confidence!’
Another fan said: ‘Ruben Amorim is a great choice. Needs to stay away from the 3-1-6 at least at the start. Stick to the 3-2-5 with Ugarte and Mainoo as the double pivot. His 3-4-2-1 will blanket a lot of the defensive issues.’
Another puts, ‘Ruben Amorim would be a great replacement for Ten Hag. He has got an incredible record at Sporting, he would definitely do brilliant with the youngsters. Don’t need any English managers near my club.’
Ruben Amorim would transform Manchester United… literally
The Red Devils would be a completely different side under Amorim, mainly given the fact United will likely to transition to three at the back.
Amorim has three mobile defenders, plus one more covering space – becoming, in effect, a defensive midfielder in attacking transition.
Players like Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte should thrive, and our attacking full-backs will also benefit greatly. It isn’t confirmed, but it looks like Amorim could be at Old Trafford sooner than expected.
