Club now pushing to sign Manuel Ugarte from Man Utd this summer, £24m transfer accelerating

Manchester United will be hoping to recoup some of Manuel Ugarte’s £42m transfer fee this summer, and now interest is growing.

It has been a difficult second season for Manuel Ugarte at Manchester United, with little to no improvement from his debut campaign.

The result of this sees United fans wanting Ugarte sold this summer after his poor record and performances have left him almost unusable for Michael Carrick.

Ugarte’s transfer was doomed to fail, with PSG shocked that United agreed to pay their demands to sign him in 2024.

Now, Ugarte’s exit is moving closer.

Galatasaray pushing to sign Manuel Ugarte

Despite his poor two years in the Premier League, there remains a lot of interest and appreciation for Ugarte’s qualities in Europe.

Now, according to Turkish outlet Aksam Spor, Galatasaray are closely monitoring Ugarte with the intent to sign him this summer.

United are expected to demand £24m for Ugarte, with the report claiming both Atletico Madrid and Napoli are also keen on the Uruguayan ball winner.

Galatasaray have placed Ugarte at the top of their list this summer and have stepped up the pursuit of United’s number 25.

United have already told Ugarte to leave the club this summer, according to reports, which could have an effect on negotiations and might see the £24m target compromised on.

How much Manchester United need to break even on Ugarte

When Ugarte joined in 2024, he signed a five year deal and so hasn’t even reached the half-way point of his hoped journey at United.

But an exit this summer looks very likely as United are set to sign Ederson plus an additional two midfielders this summer.

Assuming Ugarte didn’t trigger the performance bonuses in his contract, United will still have only paid £42m for Ugarte.

This means his book value this summer is £25.2m, and a transfer fee would need to be greater than that to constitute a profit on the books for Ineos.

This is through his amortised fee, spread over his contract, and it should give United a real chance to break even given the £24m isn’t far off.
